Aircraft Performance System 1.5

What?

This is a simplified model based on a lot of the work (both in terms of tooling and formulas) done for the 2.0 performance system. It’ll feature simple linear formulas for takeoff and landing performance that fix some major (and seriously stupid) issues in our existing set of formulas but don’t take into account airport altitude, for example. We’ll also take another look a fuel consumption/range, but won’t go overboard with it to avoid duplicating work that we’ll do for the 2.0 formulas anyway.

Why?

The existing legacy performance system has some serious flaws and whenever new types are added, our volunteer data researches need to artificially tweak the real-world parameters to arrive at somewhat plausible performance. And even that often doesn’t work, leading to annoying inconsistencies between types in the same category of aircraft, but often even within the same family. The idea is to take off the roughest edges so we can roll out an improved version to old game worlds and worlds that launch before our 2.0 performance system is done (which is still speculative and experimental in nature).
