The current feature to build/expand own terminals is replaced by an intentionally less flexible and much more long-term and meaningful one that will likely require one or more airlines to petition the respective airport to expand. The “airport operator” would then assess whether this makes sense from their perspective. They might inquire with other airlines operating at the airport about their needs. Maybe they would put the project and possibly alternatives to the vote or require financial participation by the requesting airlines in exchange for exclusive usage rights.
Why?
Rather than having airlines build and expand their own terminals at every airport and according to their exact (often tiny) capacity needs, expanding existing terminals, building concourses or even constructing completely new terminals should be meaningful and - like everything else in “new AirlineSim” - come with all sorts of trade-offs. As this is clearly a mid- to end-game feature, it’s reasonable to require quite a bit of foresight and investment by the airlines involve, either by contributing large sums and/or entering binding long-term contracts.
I’ll likely increase available votes soon. But discussions on roadmap items serve as a good indicator for interest as well. At the end of the day, votes are just one of several factors influencing our priorities
Also note that you can technically withdraw any votes you might have cast on features that are already tagged as in-progress.
It should be lounges not terminals - Airlines dont build new terminals really, other than help fund expansions (See Delta), but lounges and lounge space at airports, yes. Maybe every airline could have up to 5 lounges in the country they are based in
You should probably read the features linked in the OP first. Besides, I think my post should make it abundantly clear that this suggestion specifically isn’t about building terminals yourself, but quite the opposite.
I am in favour of expansion being designed to benefit multiple airlines rather than one.
However, I am against the idea of exclusive rights for an entire airport, since it can lock out other airlines, specially in the later phases of the world, which can severely limit the progress of newer airlines and airlines based in countries with very few airports
I wish that the idea of exclusive rights for an entire airport would be a thing only in servers with no political restrictions
If you wish to implement the idea of exclusive rights for an entire airport everywhere, then please not without some loosening of political restrictions for airlines based in countries with few airports, which may or may not include PIASA , ASEAN single aviation market and/or ECAA with the addition of the new partners
Addition of nearby “subtitude to the main one” airports to cities will also be welcome. travel math can help find additional airports for certain areas, here’s for Lima, for example
